Housed in an old building with preserved traditional elements decorated with antique crafts, specializing in Cypriot dishes & delicacies
A traditional tavern in the suburbs of Nicosia, located just 15 minutes from the city center, housed in a renovated 100 year old building, with all the traditional design elements preserved and decorated with a family collection of antique crafts and furniture.
In the old days, the building served as the owner’s grand-grand parents’ home and business; a local grocery & butcher shop and an all-men’s coffee shop. Additionally, the place was known for its delicious family recipe of Syrto Ofto Kleftiko (goat meat tied up in individual portions accompanied with potatoes and rice porridge, slowly cooked in a clay oven). The special recipe was passed-on from generation to generation and it is until today the tavern’s specialized dish, attracting by reputation, people from all over Cyprus.
Recently the tavern has been further renovated and warmed-up with a cozy fireplace for winter and a beautiful veranda with a Mediterranean garden for the warm summer months, where visitors enjoy all types of traditional grill and pot dishes, always freshly cooked with care and high quality ingredients. Delicacies such as: village wine sausages, pastourma, wine marinated cutlets, yogurt & oregano chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki & shieftalies, juicy lamb chops, grilled veil liver with fresh lemon, snails in a delicious tomato sauce, sountzoukakia with cumin spice, ravioli/macaroni, zucchini/tomato/spinach with scrambled egg, wild vegetables locally known as: molohes, lapsanes, agrellia, koupepia (vine-leaves wraps) and many more. There is a variety of side dishes such as salad with a mix of local greens, fetta, grilled or green olives, cream yogurt, pickles and the most popular, Tahini, which is prepared fresh every day by the owner/chef of the Tavern.
For desert, the tavern offers a variety of fresh fruit, traditional fruit-in-syrup desserts and homemade Cypriot sweets such as paklava, kattimeri or pourekkia.
